a classic punk rock track that should be back in style nowadays. all wiki has to say about it is this:
Reworking of the song originally by Bobby Fuller, made famous in the punk scene by The Clash.
what is great about this version is the updated lyrics from the perspective of Dan White, the assassin of Harvey Milk.
Former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra announced his intent to erect statues of Dan White all over San Francisco during his run for mayor of San Francisco, so that people could throw eggs at them to "relieve tension".
this is a nice collection of demos... as you can guess, the lo-fi, simple sound, unencumbered by a full band, makes for more enjoyable recordings. the songs pretty much cover the spectrum of williams's themes and there are plenty of lesser known tunes that shine on this disc. some real lonesome gems haunt on here.
LAGOS, Nigeria – One of Nigeria's biggest daily newspapers reported that police implicated a goat in an attempted automobile theft. In a front-page article on Friday, the Vanguard newspaper said that two men tried to steal a Mazda car two days earlier in Kwara State, with one suspect transforming himself into a goat as vigilantes cornered him.
The paper quoted police spokesman Tunde Mohammed as saying that while one suspect escaped, the other transformed into a goat as he was about to be apprehended.
The newspaper reported that police paraded the goat before journalists, and published a picture of the animal.
Police in the state couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Belief in black magic is widespread in Nigeria, particularly in far-flung rural areas.
this is a highlight of their recent album "Excellent Italian Greyhound" which is at best spotty. this has been a live staple for years though and stands out in my mind as a very funny and great song.
this is easily hawkwind's most famous song, so i am not expecting to surprise anyone with their big hit... but i was just watching a documentary about the band and they explained that a "silver machine" is a bicycle. i had always assumed it was about a rocketship and some metaphysical LSD experience about soaring through the cosmos, but no... it is about being really happy, riding around on a bicycle. the joy of riding a bike. that's it. i think i like the song a lot more now.
also in the documentary, lemmy claimed that he was the only one who could sing the high notes in the studio and that is why he was the one to sing it - by default. sometimes these things just work out for the best on their own.
