just a couple of bits i really enjoyed from past tuesday's show. in the first clip, tom talks about brian wilson's new concept album... and in the second clip, a new entry in the running for worst song in history!
I'm surre I've trried to forrce you to enjoy these guys beforre and failed, but I've got these thrree MP3s on my comp and I'm rreally rreally into them again. I've said beforre that the second album of coverrs is a FAIL, but the firrst is still brrill so stfu...
the detroit cobras is a musical formula that by all rights should be completely awful. a cover band that does oldies in a slick garage pop style? that should totally suck. but inexplicably, it doesn't and the band is quite good and you should turn onto this shit.
this is, quite simply, one of the best punk rock albums you will ever hear. it's not even really an "album" in the traditional sense - it's a compilation of songs... but it is the ultimate document of Drunks With Guns' musical output. this band is hugely under-rated and it's too bad because no other band has captured suburban misanthropy and punk angst half as well as Drunks have in one song (Wonderful Subdivision). then besides the obvious hit, you have another nine brilliant original slabs of sheer inebriated hate sludging along until you submit, shit yourself and fall down. i put this recording on the same page as anything you got by Flipper, Black Flag, No Trend, Die Kreuzen, Killdozer... go ahead and try to find a better bass guitar sound than that. you can't. not on any rock record. in short, this is one of the best things you will ever hear in your life.
Notes:This CD contains various songs from Drunks With Guns recorded between 1984 - 1990, some rare stuff from their first singles but also unreleased material. Track 11 is a Weirdos cover. Track 12 is a cover of the same song by Iggy And The Stooges.
this is a funny corporate commercial / test reference cd that came with a behringer mixer i bought years ago. the cd is from 1999, but corporate anthems like this are timeless.
